LOCAL LOCAL

For a recent exhibition at Melas Martinos Gallery in Athens, Local Local designed a discreet architectural intervention to support the presentation of a series of small drawings by Swiss artist David Weiss (1946–2012). The uniform scale and repetitive rhythm of the works became the exhibition’s guiding principle, prompting us to create calmer display surfaces and amplify the spacing between the drawings.

To reinforce this rhythm, we concealed a series of arched niches on the gallery’s first floor, creating an uninterrupted backdrop for the works. On the second floor, we introduced a new wall through the centre of the space, dividing the gallery into two distinct rooms while expanding the available display surface, shaping visitors’ movement and producing varied lighting conditions. Executed seamlessly, the intervention subtly transformed the gallery without competing with the exhibition itself, offering returning visitors an element of surprise.
