Sirigos is a Greek deluxe furniture manufacturer, founded in Athens in 1924. For its 101st anniversary, the company invited architects and designers to create new furniture inspired by its archive. Local Local’s Parrot Chair draws inspiration from Sirigos’s rather boxy interpretation of the early modern telephone seat — affectionately known in Greek as the ‘gossip seat’. Parrot is an archetypal chair, an object of pure form, that acknowledges the function and character of the original without replicating it. Crafted from unvarnished maple wood with exposed joinery and no screws, this new gossip seat comes without a shelf that would normally hold a communication device. Instead, it becomes a pared-back place for meditation, observation, and rest. When arranged in pairs or groups, it creates an environment of social interaction, inviting people to sit together, to snack, to debate — and, naturally, to gossip.
